Hello out there
Back again to entertain the masses on Substack. Lots of things happened. Just had a Colonoscopy back in October and was busy with personal situations. Anywho, hope you all are having a Happy New Year so far.
As promised last time, I’ll take you through the behind the scenes of how I created this t-shirt design for Community Access’ Art Collective.
This was my first endevour to sell artwork to wear and it turned out to be a great idea for all of us involved.
Our director Amy and screenprinter expert Natalie had gotten us as artists together to come up with artwork to be created as t-shirts to be sold on our website (infomation on that as you scroll down). As for myself, they’ve wanted to have a black and white image while the others have ideas of their own as far as their own shirts. Here’s how mine is done:
It begins with this design…

This is a drawing done in 2021 during the summer. On the surface it's just another drawing on a 11’x17’’ bristol smooth paper using pen and ink, applying pencils first.
Then…
Then I made a negative of this image by using Photoshop Express, a app on my android phone.
Then I went to use an image I did of some white circles with a black background and use Photoshop Mix and connect them together.
This black and white image I've made on Sketchbook Pro on my tablet. Natalie, our screenprinter expert and instructor went to work and help out on her end on Photoshop and edit any imperfections.
Before I send it to Natalie, I've managed to combine the images on Photoshop Mix, a lite version of Photoshop on my tablet. After that's done, Natalie will look over it and make some edits on her end on Photoshop proper; eventually gaining approval to use the image.
Everything is going well and connected and approved for creating the shirt. Now it's the processing of creating work on the shirt itself.
Natalie is a professional screenprinter and volunteer at the collective made the screen and this is me printing the shirt for an recent order.
The entire process took about about a month or two between coming up with the concept of it and consulting with Natalie and Amy, our director at the Art Collective on the design for approving the final design.
The color of the shirt was something I said and I quote myself as saying when I saw it, “ Let’s see how it goes” and I’m glad we’ve made it happen cause I thought that color was very non-binary and I wanted to be available for anyone male or female.
Yours truly and my family members wearing my shirt.
Now all that is done, the shirts are ready to go out there and sold to the masses. People brought it and have been pleased with what I’ve made and it made me feel confident about doing it again. This is the first time I’ve done something in a long time from start to finish.
We are finishing up our current stock so check out Communityaccessart.org for the remaining supply of our shirts. Check out my artwork there as well and buy my prints and artwork there as well by logging on that site and look my full name up (Pablo D. Martinez). Click on the Collective Prints section and scoll down to Individual T-Shirts to order.
Happy New Year, and have a great 2024 out there. Sorry for the looooong delay on getting this out there. I hope to come up with a regular commitment to this news letter and there are things coming up for me that will be talked about here very soon.
See you all soon.

I’ve added Bluesky recently; find me there at capricorn27.bsky.social .
It was already a cool piece with repeating shapes, and then the circles were added! Extremely artistic, and the creativity just kept coming.
Happy colonoscopy!!!
